Writing down debts

Peace be upon you! Allah’s peace, mercy and blessings be upon you! How are you, Muhammad? I’m doing well alhamdulillah, father Are you done memorizing the chapter “Surat”
that the shaikh asked you to memorize? Yes, father Having memorized this Surat, I completed
seven parts (juzu) of the Qur’an Masha’Allah! Masha’Allah!
(Expression of astonishment and admiration.) Don’t forget about the top prize when you memorize the whole Qur’an If God wills, Father Is there something that you want to ask? Yes, I’ve come to tell you that
the workers have arrived so that each would get his wage Why are you leaving them
standing by the door? Let them in! Peace be upon you Hajj Khamis
P.S: Hajj is a title that is used to call
a Muslim who has been to Mecca as a pilgrim Allah’s peace, mercy,
and blessings be upon you! Welcome dear ones! Please, be seated! Here you are! Here you are! Are you satisfied? May Allah reward you well
on our account and may Allah bless your wealth for you May Allah bless for you
what he provided you Peace be upon you Khamis Allah’s mercy, peace and blessings be upon you I have left my wife giving birth at home but she’s having a difficult labor I came to ask you for 500 pounds so that I can take her to the hospital
to give birth there Here you are Here are 700 pounds This is too much! You may need more money but I… I won’t be able to pay off the debt
until I have sold the cotton crop Don’t worry about it Hurry up and catch up with your wife May Allah make things easy for her Would you right this debt down? What are you saying, man! I trust you!
Go! Hurry! May Allah reward you well! We’re pleased to have you here, Hussein May Allah reward you well brother I just wanted to check on you
after what happened to you last time Thanks be to Allah This fire was the reason for my repentance Allah, the Almighty, has compensated me
well, more than what I had lost How’s your business with Mahmoud going? Thanks be to Allah our profits are increasing day after day That’s Allah’s promise, Brother Allah, Glorified and Sublime be He,
says in his book: “And whoever fears Allah –
He will make for him a way out And will provide for him
from where he does not expect.” Truth be told, my business with
Khamis has been all good Peace be upon you Allah’s peace, mercy and blessings be upon you Welcome, Uncle Ibrahim I’ve learned that our Brother Hussein is here so I’ve come to see him May Allah bless you for us and grant you good health and well being May Allah reward you well, Khamis for helping the needy of the village and lending them the money that they need However there’s an important matter that you can’t ignore What is it, Uncle Ibrahim? You have to write down the debt
like Allah, the Almighty, has ordered us to but I am embarrassed of writing it I am afraid that they would
think of it as a promissory note like the one that I used to make
them write before There isn’t a slightest
embarrassment over that matter as Allah, the Almighty, has enjoined us to write down debts in his book when he said: “O you who have believed, when you contract a debt for a specified term, write it down. write it down.
And let a scribe write [it] between you in justice. Let no scribe refuse to write
as Allah has taught him. So let him write and let
the one who has the obligation dictate. And let him fear Allah , his Lord, and not leave anything out of it. But if the one who has the obligation
is of limited understanding or weak or unable to dictate himself, then let his guardian dictate in justice.” and He certified it even further when He said: “And bring to witness two witnesses
from among your men. And if there are not two men [available],
then a man and two women from those whom you accept as witnesses so that if one of the women errs,
then the other can remind her. And let not the witnesses refuse
when they are called upon.” Allah -Exalted He is- has made things
easier for us, when he decreed that if we can’t find two men we can bring a man and two women to make writing down this
debt fully certified but most people think that writing down the debt means that you don’t trust the debtor That’s certainly not true Allah has decreed writing debts
to preserve rights for fear of the death of the debtor; that he would die indebted and the loaner would lose his rightful money That’s why no one should be upset at writing down a debt
since it is Allah’s decree But many times the debt is small so
we don’t feel required to write it down or take witnesses Allah’s mentioned this matter when He said: “And do not be [too] weary to write it,
whether it is small or large, for its [specified] term. That is more just in the sight of Allah and stronger as evidence and
more likely to prevent doubt between you” Allah -Exalted He be- enjoins us to write the debt,
be it large or small for its specified term but are business transactions
included in this decree? Listen to the Almighty’s words: “except when it is an immediate transaction
which you conduct among yourselves.” For [then] there is no blame upon you
if you do not write it. And take witnesses when
you conclude a contract.” Allah has excluded immediate transaction when it’s done directly There is no harm of not writing it down to make conducting transactions easier and avoid complicating them How perfect Allah’s decree is! Indeed it is the decree of the All Wise God!
