The ASL Alphabet: American Sign Language Letters A-Z


If you want to learn how to sign the letters
of the American Sign Language alphabet, you’ve come to the right place. Hey everyone! I’m
your host Danae. And in this video, our teacher Victoria is going to teach you a basic and
easy way to learn the ASL alphabet. So stay tuned and before you go make sure to check

A. A. A. B. We’re going to put our four fingers together and our thumb in the center of our
palm. B. A. B. C. It looks exactly like a “C”. A. B. C. Moving
onto D. You’re going to make kind of an O shape with our index finger up. D. Looking
at it from your angle if you’re right handed it looks like a “d”. So A. B. C. D. E. We’re
going to scrunch our fingers up like this. Our thumb is going down. E. So it’s A. B.
C. D. E. F. Our thumb and our index finger will touch. And our pinky, ring finger, and
middle finger are going up. Kind of fanned out. This is an F. A. B. C. D. E. F. Onto
G. Our index finger is going to point out. Our thumb is right behind it. This is a G.
So it’s A. B. C. D. E. F. G. For H, we’re just putting an extra finger out. Our middle
finger, along with our index. Our thumb is still behind. H. A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. For
I, we’re just going to make a fist but keep our pinky up. I. A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I.
For J, we’re going to keep our pinky there and we’re just going to do a little loop.
J. So it’s A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. For K, we’re going to pick up two fingers and
put our thumb in the middle. This is a K. A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. K. For L, we’re
going to make an L shape with our fingers. Our thumb is going to go the left if you’re
right handed, with your index finger up. L. A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. K. L. For M,
we’re going to put our thumb in between our pinky and the ring finger like this. So what
will be sitting on top of our thumb are these three fingers. M. So let’s practice those.
A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. K. L. M. If we stay right there with M and we just move
one over, right to the middle, to where only two fingers are sitting on top, like this.
This is an N. A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. K. L. M. N. For O, we’re going to make an
O shape with our hand just like this. O. A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. K. L. M. N. O.
For P, I want you to go ahead and make a K, and all we’re going to do is turn it upside
down. So you should have your two fingers pointing down, and the thumb right in the
middle like this. This is a P. So again, we’ve got A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. K. L. M.
N. O. P. A Q is an upside down G. So remember that’s our index finger with our thumb right
behind it. If you just point it down like this, see my thumb is still right behind.
This is a Q. So again, A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. K. L. M. N. O. P. Q. Our next letter
is an R. So all we’re doing here is we’re crossing our index and middle finger together
like this. R. So A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. K. L. M. N. O. P. Q. R. Alright so now
we have S. For this we’re just going to make a fist. Our thumb is going to sit right on
top. This is letter is often confused with A. A has the same sort of hand shape but our
thumb is off to the side. For S we’re going to rest it on top of our fist like this. S.
So A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. K. L. M. N. O. P. Q. R. S. Next we’re moving onto T.
This is similar to M and N. This time we’re just tucking our thumb with only one finger
sitting on top of it. So it’s going to be between our middle finger and our index finger
like this. T. So A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. K. L. M. N. O. P. Q. R. S. T. For U, we’re
going to put two fingers up, middle finger and index finger together like this. U. So
let’s practice those. We’ve got A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. K. L. M. N. O. P. Q. R.
S. T. U. If we stick right there, open up our fingers, this is the letter V. It looks
exactly like a V if you’re looking at it. V. So we’ve got A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I.
J. K. L. M. N. O. P. Q. R. S. T. U. V. Stick right there, put out one more finger. That’s
our W. So our thumb is just holding our pinky. We have our three fingers up. W. So it’s A.
B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. K. L. M. N. O. P. Q. R. S. T. U. V. W. X is our next one.
So this one looks like a hook. That’s how I’ve always remembered it. So we’re just holding
our fist here. Our index finger curves over. X. A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. K.
L. M. N. O. P. Q. R. S. T. U. V. W. X. Now up to Y. So we’re just going to make a fist
and then put out our thumb and pinky like this. Y. So A. B. C. D. E.
F. G. H. I. J. K. L. M. N. O. P. Q. R. S. T. U. V. W. X. Y.
Our last letter is Z. All we’re going to do is
take our index finger and draw a Z in the air as we would read it. Z. So let’s go ahead
and put all of our letters together from the top. A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J. K. L. M.
