How to Change the Font and Font Size of Comments in Microsoft Word

Hello, my name is Erin. I’m a professional copy editor who shares writing tips for the real world on my
blog at ErinWrightWriting.com. Today’s tutorial shows how to change the
font and font size of comments in Microsoft Word. These steps can also be used to change other styles in Word comments, such as color, spacing, and
indents. At the end of this tutorial, I’ll also show how to change the font style of the built-in comment balloon text, such as the reviewer’s name and the Reply and Resolve button labels. I’ll be using Word from Office 365, which is currently the same as Word 2019. However the steps are the same for Word 2016 and similar for Word 2013 and Word 2010. To begin, select the Home tab and then
select the dialog box launcher in the Styles group. In the Styles pane, select
the Manage Styles button. Note that your Styles pane may look longer or shorter than mine. In the manage Styles dialog box, ensure that you’re in the Edit tab, and then select Alphabetical in the sort order drop-down menu. Then select Comment Text in the select a style to edit menu, followed by the Modify button. Next, choose your new font and/or font size from the modify style dialog box. From here you can also select other styles that you may want to change, such as the font color, horizontal and vertical alignment, paragraph spacing, and indents. When you’re finished select the OK button. And then select the OK button in
the Manage Styles dialog box. Now we’ll change the built-in text in
balloons, such as the reviewer’s name and the Reply and Resolve button labels. These steps will also change the text for formatting changes displayed in balloons. Once again, begin by selecting the Home tab. And then select the dialog
box launcher in the Styles group. In the Styles pane, select the Manage Styles button. In the manage Styles dialog box, select Alphabetical in the sort order drop-down menu. This time, select Balloon Text in the select a style to edit menu, followed by the modify button. Choose your new font and/or font size from the Modify Style dialog box, along with any other styles you may want to change. When you’re finished select the OK button, followed by the OK button in the Manage
Styles dialog box. The transcript for this tutorial appears
on ErinWrightWriting.com, which is linked below along with my Microsoft Word playlist. Feel free to leave me a comment if you have a question about Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat that you’d like me to address in the future. And please subscribe and give this video a thumbs-up if you found it helpful. Thank you so much for watching!
