Now the S. This; there’s variations on the
S depending, you know, kind of like on what alphabet you’re dealing with. One S; one possibility
for an S is to go like this, then like this, and then like this. Then you can go have fun
with these guys right here and here. Or you can go like this, and like this, like that,
but just don’t let it get too wide this way. You’re going to see uncial Ts in the gothic.
See, the rounded form that’s a uncial T. Just filling in a space. Whole arm; see I’m using my whole arm even
to go this way in this smaller stroke. I wish I could give you some logical thinking
about why it is that this goes this way and that goes that way, but I really can’t. I
think that the way that you tell the U from the V is this is the distinguishing characteristic
for the U and this is the distinguishing characteristic for the V and of course the fact that it’s
blank down here. So, you know, you just want to make sure that, you know, that there’s
a sense, sort of a consistent sense within all of these letters of the way that you’re
filling in those spaces.
